| "All
have sinned and fall short of the glory of
God." Romans 3:32 |

Imagine,
if you will, the owner of a completely white house with white walls,
white ceiling, white curtains,
white carpeting and matching white furniture. A man is standing on the
doorstep, his shirt and pants streaked-black from wiping the oil off
his still-greasy hands; his shoes covered in mud from where he stepped
in the flower garden on his way to the doorstep. Imagine, if you can, the
home owner's reply to the man's request to come inside the house to use
the phone.
I want you to think about that, because that's exactly how it is between us and God. |
God is righteous, and we are not. God is holy, and we are not. God is perfect, but we are not! We have all sinned from childhood and though we may wish to do good, to make the right choices; we can't stop doing wrong, thinking wrong, acting wrong, speaking wrong. Each day of our lives we add to an ever-increasing sin-debt! To make matters worse, we live in a sinful world surrounded by other sinful people. Temptations around us wherever we may go. Our very environment corrupts us! No matter how hard we try, we discover we are incapable of making ourselves righteous, and nothing in this world can set things right: Not self-help books, not self-discipline, not even religion! Meanwhile, we hear the time-bomb ticking away inside each of us. It ticks away the seconds, minutes and hours...each moment bringing us closer to that one experience in life of which we can all be certain and so many of us fear --- our own deaths. |
