Whenever I come into the presence of God I'm reminded of His holiness and my utter lack of righteousness. Like the Publican, I find myself beating my chest and saying, "God forgive me, a sinner!" (Luke 18:13) This is normal...when Isaiah had a vision of God in His glory, he fell to the ground and cried out, "Woe is me! I am doomed because I am a man of unclean lips, and I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips; and I have seen the King, the Lord of hosts!" (Is. 6:5) And when St. Peter realized that Jesus was more than just a man, he said "Go away from me Lord, for I am a sinful man!" (Luke 5:8) Likewise, when we find ourselves in the presence of God and then look at ourselves; so often all we can see is our sin, our shame and our failures. The next step in worship is to confess our sins before the all-knowing God. You won't surprise Him, He already knows everything you've done (and loves you in spite of what you've done) ...but you need to lay it on the line with Him and be honest with yourself so that you can receive from Him the forgiveness He offers. Take a few moments now to confess your sins to God. Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord. Tell Him what you've done against Him and against your neighbors, your friends, your co-workers, your family and yourself. Get down on your knees if you want.
